A new indie game titled Kick Bastards has just been revealed, and it looks to be taking quite a few notes from the beloved Mirror's Edge series. DICE's first-person free-running action series has been known to inspire a number of movement-based modern games, including the parkour-centric Dying Light franchise.
Mirror's Edge hasn't gotten a new entry since 2016's Mirror's Edge Catalyst, and it doesn't look like there are any new games on the horizon. Still, Catalyst and its predecessor have a fair share of dedicated fans, as fans around the world resonated with the games' unique parkour mechanics, which allowed for a freedom of movement and a sense of momentum that is rare in the AAA gaming space. Although EA has been quiet when it comes to the future of this popular series, its impact can still be felt through other games that take inspiration from its movement system, art style, and more.

While games like Minecraft have parkour via UGC, indie studio Something Something Games is looking to recapture some of the magic of Mirror's Edge through a full-fledged modern release called Kick Bastards. Developer Ian Wilson recently shared some gameplay footage of Kick Bastards, showing off some of the clear Mirror's Edge influence that is apparent in inclusions like the highlighted obstacles and animations. Combat seems to be a heavy focus, as the Kick Bastards Steam page states that "every problem can be solved with a kick" in the game. The Kick Bastards Twitter page has additional videos that give some insight into both the development of the game and what players can expect when it is officially released.
i'm really trying to make this the best
