Bandai Namco’s fighting sequel, Tekken 8, has debuted at the top of this week’s UK boxed charts.
According to GI.biz’s Christopher Dring, the title enjoyed a significant launch weekend within its genre, more than doubling the initial physical sales of last year’s Street Fighter 6.
“Last year, I was surprised at how low Street Fighter 6’s UK sales were at physical retail (it did fine digitally),” he wrote. “I wondered if it was a genre trend, but Tekken 8’s UK physical sales are good, and more than double the launch of SF6. So… who knows? Maybe it was the competition”.
Another new release, Sega’s Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, debuted at No. 2.
Tekken 8 was released for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC on Friday. VGC’s Tekken 8 review called the game “a sensational sequel”.
“With a renewed emphasis on single-player modes and a new Heat mechanic which ensures fights are more frenetic, it’s up there with Tekken 3 as one of the most exciting high points in the series.”
