Retro remaster developer Nightdive Studios has announced that it will be releasing a remaster of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion.
Nightdive previously released a remaster of the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter on PC in 2015, before also remastering its sequel Turok 2: Seeds of Evil in 2017. Both remasters were released on Xbox One in 2018, Switch in 2019 and PS4 in 2021.
The Turok 3 remaster will release on all platforms simultaneously, launching on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 14.
According to Nightdive, the remaster will run through its proprietary KEX engine, which has been used for its previous remasters.
It will result in the ability to play the game at up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second, depending on the platform. It also features “upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for console gamepads with platform-specific features”.
Console-specific features include optional gyro motion controls for Switch and Trophies / Achievements on Xbox, PlayStation and Steam.
Turok 3 has players choosing to play as either Joseph or Danielle, the siblings of the second game’s protagonist Joshua. After Joshua is killed, the selected character becomes the new Turok and has to save the universe from destrcution by a monstrous entity called Oblivion.
Each character has their own abilities – Danielle has a grappling hook and favours action, whereas Josaph has night vision goggles, meaning he’s best suited to stealth players.
