Suikoden I & II HD Remasters have been delayed
Konami has announced that their HD remaster of the first two Suikoden games have been indefinitely delayed. Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars will now arrive sometime later.
Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars was announced nearly a year ago with a vague release date of 2023. Since then, we haven’t heard much about it.
The Suikoden games are a bit obscure in North America, but they have a dedicated fanbase. The first game in the series was released in Japan on PS1 in 1995, with the sequel following in 1998. The last title to be released in North America was the 2008 spin-off for the Nintendo DS, titled Suikoden Tierkreis, while the last Japanese title was Gensō Suikoden: Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. It’s no surprise that Konami has sat on the series for so long, as the publisher is legendary for hating fun.
The remasters are currently showing off some updated visuals, and Konami has stated that they’ll also have some quality-of-life updates and other fixes over the previous versions.
It may also be worth noting that series creator Yoshitaka Murayama is now working on Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, which is said to be a spiritual successor to the Suikoden series, and is planned for release in 2024.
No new release date for Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, but 2024 sounds like a decent bet. It’s slated for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Switch. You might be interested to know you can still get the first two titles on PS3 via the PlayStation store. They don’t, however, have the planned quality-of-life updates.
