Alone In The Dark has been delayed to January
Alone In the Dark has been delayed and will no longer be releasing on October 25th, THQ Nordic has confirmed. Instead a new release date of January 16th, 2024 has been given, with the game releasing on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The main reason given is because of the already busy release schedule of October, where other heavy hitters are due to release.
In a statement THQ Nordic wrote, “Our intention is to avoid competing with the wake of Alan’s epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man. We aim to truly remain as Alone in the Dark as possible. To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been rescheduled to unveil its horrors on January 16th, 2024. This extension will serve a dual purpose: not only will it permit us to meticulously perfect the gaming experience, but it will also grant us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable releases of October.”
Reading between the lines, it could be that THQ Nordic analysed the situation and concluded that Alone In The Dark sales would suffer when going up against the likes of Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. It could also be that the development team did need the extra couple of months to polish the Alone In The Dark experience.
In our preview for Alone In The Dark, Stefan said, “There’s great ambitions to Alone in the Dark, and on every level it sounds like Pieces Interactive are taking the right approach to reviving a landmark horror series for a modern era.”
Alone In The Dark allows players to play as two protagonists. Emily Hartwood who is played by Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, and the classic Detective Edward Carnby, now reimagined and played by Stranger Things’
