Samsung's latest external SSD is twice as fast as the previous model, capable of transferring a 4GB video file in just two seconds.
A trio of new external drives were unveiled by Samsung today sporting the name Portable SSD T9. The 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB drives offer read and write speeds of up to 2,000MB/second using a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps) connection. They are also very pocket friendly, measuring 88 by 60 by 14mm and weighing just 122 grams.
The casing of the T9 is rubber, but has been given a "fabric-like feel." It's drop resistant to 3 meters, includes a five-year limited warranty, and uses Samsung's Dynamic Thermal Guard to prevent overheating and limit performance drops during large or extended periods of file transfers.
As with the company's internal SSDs, Samsung uses its Magician Software (version 8.0) to ensure the T9 remains healthy and keeps its firmware up-to-date. There's also data migration software available to make transferring your data to the new drive as quick and painless as possible.
The Portable SSD T9 is available worldwide from today and compatible with Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, cameras, and games consoles according to Samsung. The 1TB model costs $139.99, the 2TB model is $239.99, and the 4TB model is $439.99. Regardless of which one you choose, Samsung includes a USB Type C-to-C and USB Type C-to-A cable in the box.
