Following the announcement of the Season 5 renewal, returning showrunner Issa López shared the difference between the next installment from True Detective: Night Country.
During a recent interview, López revealed she’s still currently in the process of writing True Detective Season 5. She also teased that the next installment of HBO‘s acclaimed crime drama will once again introduce new characters in a “completely different adventure.”
“In the writing,” López said (via Variety). “And it’s a blast. It’s completely different. There’s different characters, different setting, different story — and I’m enjoying it like crazy.”
True Detective: Night Country was co-written and directed by López. Season 4 starred Foster, Kali Reis, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Isabella Star Lablanc, Aka Niviâna, Anna Lambe, Joel D. Montgrand, Christopher Eccleston, and John Hawkes. Despite receiving criticism from the original creator Nic Pizzolatto, the latest installment still went on to earn a Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace,” reads the logline for last season. “To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
