Love it or loathe it, the PS5 is at best an unorthodox looking console. Dbrand, the ever outspoken accessories and hardware modding manufacturer, has found the solution, however: translucent coloured plastic skins, just like those in the 90s. Whether you had a PS1 memory card, a Tamagotchi, a Nintendo 64, or a Game Boy Color, you’ll immediately recognise the style.
The official website leans hard into the nostalgia: “You're doing some online shopping. A company called Dbrand is selling Retro Darkplates for your PS5. Their translucent colours remind you of your old N64.” The description goes on and on, with the same tongue-in-cheek attitude the organisation is known for.
The plates are available for the standard, disc-based PS5 and its Blu-ray-less Digital Edition alternative in Smoke Black, Atomic Purple, Ice Blue, and Fire Orange. They’ll cost you anywhere from $84.00 to $99.95, depending on which option you plump up for. Will you be customising your console with one of these absolute beauties? Not sure I'd spend 84 big ones on cheap plastic tbh. Half of that maybe, and that's at a
