Over the weekend, Geoff Keighley hosted the Game Awards 10-Year Concert in Los Angeles, a one-night event featuring live video game music from the last decade. In addition to a full orchestra playing tracks from The Last of Us, God of War, and many others, the audience was treated to the very first public performance of the main theme from Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
The track, named Greater Together, made its debut during the live event, but you can now listen to the song via Spotify. Below is a preview of the piece, but you can hear the full thing in the app:
Thematically, the song is very clear. First, we hear Peter Parker's rousing theme from Marvel's Spider-Man. It's followed by Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales' more hip-hop flavoured track. The two themes are then thrown together, echoing the sequel's two playable lead characters. It sounds very triumphant, and the combination of the two styles works well. However, it then changes dramatically, becoming much darker — no doubt connoting the Symbiote and Venom's effect on the pair of heroes.
It's composed by John Paesano, who also made the music for the two previous Spidey games from Insomniac. Each title has had a great, very Hollywood-sounding score, and it seems that the next one will be no different.
