If you can recall the announcement of Transformers: Reactivate at The Game Awards 2022, then you've got a better memory than us.
It was revealed via a vague but expensive-looking CG trailer during Geoff's show, and promised a console release in 2023. That obviously never happened, and now, the project's been officially cancelled.
The news comes via developer Splash Damage, which has posted a statement on social media. «The decision has been made to end development of Transformers: Reactivate,» it writes.
Autobots' greatest ever threat awaits
The sad news is that this cancellation will likely result in layoffs at the London-based studio. The statement continues: «We will be scaling down to refocus our efforts on other projects. Unfortunately, despite every effort, a number of roles across the studio are now potentially at risk of redundancy.»
It's unclear what's actually happened to Transformers: Reactivate, but it's safe to say that its development hasn't been smooth. We've seen next to nothing of the project over the last couple of years, although some early gameplay footage did leak during that time.
There's also a dark humour to the fact that Hasbro (the toy company that owns Transformers) actually launched some Transformers: Reactivate action figures in 2023. Obviously, this game was meant to be a fairly big deal.
«Hasbro was an incredible and supportive partner throughout,» Splash Damage clarifies.
