Benedict Cumberbatch trolls fans over the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Tom Cruise cameo theory. The highly anticipated Marvel movie is just the second in the Doctor Strange series, despite Cumberbatch having several MCU appearances as the titular character already under his belt. After premiering earlier this week, the movie from director Sam Raimi officially hits US theaters on Friday, May 6.
Following the returns of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in last year's Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans came into Doctor Strange 2 expecting a wide array of cameos, leading to several prominent theories. Some of them have borne out, such as Patrick Stewart's Professor X being revealed in the Doctor Strange 2 Super Bowl trailer, but many prospective viewers have held out hope of seeing one particular movie star make an appearance. Knowing that Robert Downey Jr. was highly doubtful to return as an Iron Man variant, one theory posited that Cruise would play Superior Iron Man, a villainous version of the beloved superhero.

Now, in an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Cumberbatch teases fans over this particular theory. After admitting that there was virtually nothing he could say about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, due to Marvel Studios' notorious spoiler controls, he feigns deciding he can give Fallon an exclusive by hinting at one major cameo without saying the actor's name. He then starts humming the theme to Cruise's Top Gun, and when Fallon excitedly asks if he's being serious, he immediately says no. Check out Cumberbatch's quote below:
