Farewell "like for part two"? TikTok is testing the option to upload 15-minute videos.
As TechCrunch reports, the test was spotted by social media consultant, Matt Navarra, who posted a screenshot on Threads and said: "TikTok is testing 15 minute video upload limit. Previous maximum video length was 10 minutes."
Short-form content has long been TikTok's selling point, but the app has slowly increased video length options, from 60 seconds to 3 minutes in 2021 and then 10 minutes in 2022. With the increased time available, creators can share more long-form content like cooking recipes, educational content, and tutorials. Viewers will also see fewer multi-part "storytime" clips.
The move puts TikTok on a more equal footing against YouTube, which still tops TikTok in terms of views. YouTube also has a 15-minute video limit, unless you're verified, at which point you can stream for up to 12 hours. The Google-owned site also has its own TikTok-like features with YouTube Shorts.
TikTok declined to provide details to TechCrunch about when the 15-minute limit will roll out. There's a chance you may already have it, depending on where it's being tested, so keep an eye out.
