8BitDo is best known for its excellent third-party console and PC controllers, but the gaming peripheral manufacturer recently released a pair of retro-inspired mechanical keyboards, and you can grab one for $90 (normally $100) during Amazon's extended Black Friday sale. This is the first deal we've seen on these stylish keyboards that released over the summer.
8BitDo's Retro Mechanical Keyboards feature paint jobs based on classic Nintendo consoles. The N Edition features gray and red colors based on the NES, while the Fami Edition sports the red, off-white, and brown color scheme of the Famicom. The Fami Edition's keys also display both the English alphabet and Japanese Hiragana.
Each Retro Mechanical Keyboard also comes with a set of USB Super Buttons, which are large buttons that look like the A and B buttons from the original NES and Famicom controllers that you can map specific key functions to without software. The Super Button panel is detachable.
As for the rest of the keyboard specs, both models use an 87-key TKL layout (meaning there's no num pad) and feature Kailh Box White V2 switches with hot-swappable, dye-subbed PBT keycaps. In other words, these keyboards are more compact than a standard 104-key keyboard, with clicky keys that have a shorter stem for faster button actuation.
The keyboards support Windows 10 and 11, Android 9.0 or higher, and macOS, and work over wired USB, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth connections. Windows users can also customize the keyboard mapping using the 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2.
