Have you ever been in a shop and wanted to make a payment with Apple Pay only to discover your battery has run out? It has happened to the best of us. However, it will come as a surprise to you to know that Apple actually lets you make payments with Apple Pay even when your iPhone battery has died. According to the Sun UK, a TikTok star recently discovered this hack while trying to make payment at the subway station.
Hopping between the cities of Hong Kong and New York, Anastasia Koss recently revealed this Apple Pay hack to her followers. Koss discovered this hack while travelling by the MTR public transport in Hong Kong. According to her, she was trying to pay for the ticket with her iPhone when she found that the battery had run out. Seeing a long rush at the cash ticket counter, she thought she would have to walk home, that is until a kind stranger shared this hack with her.
Koss told NeedToKnow.Online, “So I turned to a man walking by and asked him if he could scan me. He then told me if my Octopus card is connected to my Apple Wallet, I could still use it even if my phone died. I didn't believe him and after giving it a go, it worked!”
Apple announced the Express Cards feature back in iOS 12 which lets users make certain payments with their iPhones even after their battery has run out. IOS 12's support guide states, ““If iOS isn't running because the iPhone needs to be charged, there may still be enough power in the battery to support Express Card transactions.”
When your iPhone runs out of battery, you can press the side button to see the battery dead indicator along with the Express Card icon. When you bring your iPhone near an NFC terminal, you will not see anything appear on the display but will feel haptic
