No Way Home started rumors that Benedict Cumberbatch was secretly playing an evil or corrupt Doctor Strange in the film. In addition to an evil Doctor Strange appearing in Marvel's What If...?, the No Way Home trailers appeared to show Doctor Strange throwing caution to the wind. Despite being warned against a dangerous memory wipe spell in the trailers, Doctor Strange went ahead with it anyway, trying to make the world forget Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) secret identity as Spider-Man.
