Doctor Strange meets America Chavez in a new image from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Six years after Benedict Cumberbatch starred in his first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Doctor Strange 2 will finally continue the sorcerer's solo franchise. The movie will be quite different than originally intended, as Sam Raimi replaced Scott Derrickson as the director and a heavy emphasis on the multiverse emerged. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also had to change due to Phase 4's reshufflings, as it originally came out before Spider-Man: No Way Home's multiverse story.
Audiences received their first look at Doctor Strange 2 in the post-credits of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Marvel Studios released the trailer online shortly thereafter. The marketing campaign is now starting to heat up as the sequel's early May release date approaches. The result was Marvel Studios debuting the second Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer during the Super Bowl. It quickly surprised fans by what was shown, as the Illuminati and Patrick Stewart's return as Professor X were teased. The footage also provided more information on Scarlet Witch's (Elizabeth Olsen) role, while leaving plenty of mystery about what the exact plot is.
