Yesterday, we got the surprising announcement that Amazon's attempt to get an MMO based on The Lord of the Rings off the ground is back on the cards. This follows the last LOTR MMO it was working on getting cancelled several years into development, following some messy behind-the-scenes legal drama. While this is good news for anyone looking for another fantasy MMO to get stuck into, LOTR fans aren't convinced that the game will do the world of Middle-earth justice.
For various reasons, fans are sceptical that Amazon Game Studios can make The Lord of the Rings work in MMO form. Whether it's fears over how the source material is handled or concerns over the game's performance given New World's less-than-stellar launch, Amazon certainly has a lot of doubters to prove wrong, and not just from the Tolkien rights holders this time.

"I desperately want a good LOTR game, and I desperately want a good new MMO, but Amazon has shown zero capability of doing either one justice," says Reddit user Swordbreaker925, referring to the negative fan feedback towards The Rings of Power and New World.
"No faith in Amazon. Period," agrees BabuDakhal, clearly not feeling the hype with this announcement.
Over on Twitter, there's a pinch more optimism, but still plenty of fans doubting that Amazon can pull off an MMO set in Middle-earth that's worth the hassle. One fan even refers to it as "New World 2: Tolkien Edition."
That's not to say that all fans are so pessimistic. There are some who are looking forward to exploring Middle-earth in an MMO that's a bit more modern user friendly than The Lord of the Rings Online. This MMO is actually still live right
