A new source suggests that Alan Wake 2 is planned for release on October of this year.
As shared by Twitter user Okami13_, Matthew Poretta, who voices Alan Wake himself, shared the rumor on a recent podcast. As you may have imagined, that podcast was already scrubbed off of the website.
The fact that it was removed only raises fans’ suspicions that the information is correct, so unless Remedy Entertainment officially denies this now, we will reasonably assume they are looking at a Halloween or Halloween season release.
Of course, it is only fitting that Remedy look to release Alan Wake 2 around Halloween. They must certainly be looking at a highly competitive holiday season looming this year.
But the planned release date also comes with some risks. Starfield will have released a month before this release window. If this turns out to be a huge hit for Bethesda and Microsoft, Remedy may face stiff opposition from consumers on their own release. But perhaps the overlap between Alan Wake fans and Starfield fans won’t be that high.
We also did recently see the overwhelmingly successful release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In the following months, other major releases are also on the way, including Final Fantasy 16, Diablo 4, Assassins’ Creed Mirage, Counter-Strike 2, Forza Motorsport, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Lies of P, Payday 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and the fighting game combo of Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and Mortal Kombat 1.
To be clear; it isn’t that any one of these titles are directly competing with Alan Wake 2. In fact, with such a strong year for video games, Remedy might benefit from riding the train of 2023 releases.
