Game Director Aaron Keller put out a blog post discussing Season 5's unique game modes, changes to the Battle Pass, and addressing one-sided matches.
Battle Pass Changes The Battle Pass features more skins from each season's theme. The Mythic skin this Season is unlocked in tiers. Progressing the Battle Pass unlocks parts of the Questwatch story. Blizzard is going to keep experimenting to see what feels exciting and fun for the Battle Pass system. Game Modes «Defeat the Demon Lord» is the first ever creator-made game mode, created by CactusPuppy. «Winston's Beach Volleyball» releases alongside the Summer Games event. «Magic and Mischief» is Overwatch's take on Prop Hunt. Blizzard wants to create more replayability in their limited time game modes. The final game mode for Season 5 is a 5v5 ranked mini-season. This game mode requires premade 5 stacks of any rank to play versus each other on a competitive ladder. Matchmaking One-sided matches happen in all games, not just Overwatch Blizzard's data has shown that one-sided matches happen at the same rate, even in matches where the skill difference is less than one division. The core game mechanics of Overwatch can lead to one-sided matches, the winners of a fight gain more ult charge, dictate positioning of the next fight, etc. The biggest way Blizzard can address one-sided matches is by changing the core game mechanics, more coming on this topic soon.
