The final pre-launch trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom aired recently, and based on all the incredible things showcased, it looks to be a worthy successor to Breath of the Wild. Perhaps the biggest reveal is the return of Ganondorf as the antagonist.
Nintendo has roped in some big-name talent to voice the long-time Zelda villain, with actor Matthew Mercer of Overwatch 2 fame confirming his involvement. Mercer noted he was an “immense” fan of The Legend of Zelda series since he was a child and that Ganondorf is “one of my favorite antagonists,” to the extent that he played the latter in his web series.
Of course, how Ganondorf is involved in the story, especially after the Calamity was defeated in the original, remains to be seen. But this is another high-profile role for Mercer, following the reveal of him playing Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3, which launches on August 31st for PC and PS5.
As for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it’s out on May 12th for Nintendo Switch. Check out some new gameplay from a recently leaked TV spot here.
