The original design of PlayStation 5 is on the way out — but here’s a rare opportunity to get the standard, disc-based model at a discount, thanks to GameStop’s Black Friday sale. You can pick up a PS5 console for $449.99 (was $499.99).
Even though this deal is nice, it’s sadly nowhere near as good as Target’s Black Friday doorbuster that had the console selling for just $349.99 for Target Circle members — an unprecedentedly good price. We’ll be keeping an eye out for that deal’s somewhat unlikely return, as well as price drops at other retailers.
PlayStation 5 has been in such demand since its 2020 launch that it’s rarely discounted, not counting the handful of bundles that knock off the cost of a game. Nevertheless, retailers like Best Buy are looking to clear stock of the original console to make room for the new redesign. Whilst the new console is (only slightly) smaller and lighter than the admittedly hefty original, its detachable disc drive has left gaps in the casing on both sides which, if you ask us, rather spoil its looks. So you’d be forgiven to wanting to snap up one of these OG bad boys while you still can.

Why get the disc-based model? Because by owning hard copies of games, you’re securing your collection and genuinely contributing to the future preservation of the art form — and because, if you don’t own a 4K Blu-ray player, you can then use your PS5 to play 4K discs, which are by far the best way to experience movies at home.
And if you manage to pick up a PS5 from this or any other deal this Black Friday, these are the best PS5 games you should consider getting to go with it.
