PlayStack's The Case Of The Golden Idol quickly became one of the major indie successes of 2022 thanks to its unique mystery-solving gameplay. Today, the developer has announced The Spider Of Lanka, a new downloadable expansion which adds three more mysteries to the game beginning May 4.
The Spider Of Lanka is set in 1741, one year before the first mystery of the core game, and it serves as a prequel to the original's game. It takes place in the fictional Kingdom Of Lanka, an all-new setting which sits «thousands of miles» from the core game's Blackfield.
The story follows the two men at the center of that first mystery, Albert Cloudsley and Oberon Geller, as they travel to Lanka on a maiden voyage. There, as the official press release puts it, they «visit [REDACTED], the Raja whose Priest has some startling information concerning the location of a [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED], apparently [REDACTED] [REDACTED] to turn [REDACTED] into [REDACTED].»
The Case Of The Golden Idol first launched in October, and it saw players attempting to determine specific events by investigating the scenes where they took place. By hunting for clues, reading texts, and finding important objects, players could unlock terms of interest that would then be used to fill out the details of each event in a Mad Libs-esque format.
The Spider Of Lanks launches on Steam May 4 for $6, and it requires the base game to play. Those who have not tried The Case Of The Golden Idol yet can download a free demo which runs through the first mysteries of the game.
