Corrupted Mods in Warframe offer players enhancements to certain stats that go beyond what normal Mods can offer; however, that comes at a price. Originally released in 2013, Warframe is a free-to-player online multiplayer shooter that was developed by the same company that made the classic Unreal Tournament, Digital Extremes. The game begins as players take control of one of the Tenno, a race of ancient warriors awakened from cryosleep to fight an interplanetary war involving future Earth. This ancient race fights by using advanced weapons systems called Warframes, and each will provide players with unique features and abilities.
As players progress in Warframe, they will eventually unlock the Mods system after completing the “Liberate the imprisoned arms dealer” tutorial mission from the Vor’s Prize quest. This will allow players to strengthen their Warframes, weapons, vehicles, and even companions, by using Mods to increase several stats, such as damage, survivability, or speed. Combined with a Warframe’s signature abilities, players can then use Mods to specialize their gear in order to create powerful and unique builds in Warframe that suit their playstyle.

Corrupted Mods differ from regular Mods in that they offer buffs with much higher numbers but also inflict a penalty. This can be quite detrimental when trying to make a well-rounded and balanced character but can be very valuable if players can find a way to minimize the impact of the penalty. Currently, there are 23 Corrupted Mods, all with a roughly 4% chance to drop. They can be obtained from the Orokin Derelict by using Dragon Keys to unlock the Orokin Vaults within.
