In a year when many AAA developers have had their games plagued by delays, indie games have done the opposite and stepped up for the year. Much to players' delight, there have been indie surprises across many different genres, making indie games a viable option even for those who have never tried games in the indie market. While some of the most anticipated indies of 2022 like Sea of Stars have since been delayed, surprise indie hits have given fans plenty to play in the absence of huge AAA releases.
Without many major AAA games, and with the absence of even larger-scale indies that were thought possible to release this year, like Hollow Knight: Silksong, small indies have been given a true spotlight this year. Games like Neon White and Citizen Sleeper that may not have gotten much attention in other years were able to gain a bit more of an audience. In addition, some larger-scale indies were still able to be hits, like Sifu.

With a few months left to go in 2022, there are still some great games on the horizon. AAA hits like God of War: Ragnarok for PS5 owners and Bayonetta 3 with its many returning characters for Switch players are still on their way. For gaming fans uninterested in those big games on the horizon, though, here are the best indie games one might have missed so far in 2022.
One of the best roguelike games got even better in 2022. Risk of Rain 2 got its first expansion, Survivors of the Void, on March 1, 2022. With this new expansion came a ton of features, including two new survivors, five environments, 41 new items, eleven new monsters, three new bosses, and an entirely new ending sequence.
