WARNING: Spoilers ahead for The Afterparty season 1
The Afterparty creator Christopher Miller debunks the fan theory that the series has multiple endings, similar to the classic mystery film Clue. Miller, along with Phil Lord, has directed Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Lego Movie, and 21 Jump Street, as well as producing TV projects like The Last Man on Earth. The Afterparty, however, is mostly Miller's project, who served as showrunner and director of all eight episodes while writing 3.
The Afterparty follows an ensemble of characters attending their high school reunion, after which one of them, famous musician and movie star Xavier (Dave Franco), is murdered. Each episode then follows a different character's point of view as they recount the events surrounding the murder as a "mind movie" that takes on the form of a popular genre. The rest of the ensemble features Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ike Barinholtz, Ben Schwartz, and Ilana Glazer. The Afterpartywas renewed for season 2 with Haddish set to return.
