Following Obi-Wan Kenobi’s first trailer, Disney released a first-look image of Darth Vader that essentially confirms an exciting theory about Hayden Christensen’s return. The first teaser trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi introduced villain characters like Inquisitor Reva/Third Sister, the Grand Inquisitor, and Fifth Brother, while ending with the menacing off-screen breathing of Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader. Christensen’s Vader wasn’t shown in the trailer alongside other prequel actors reprising their roles like Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan and Joel Edgerton’s Owen Lars, but a follow-up image proves his appearance will be even more intriguing than previously suggested.
While Hayden Christensen’s portrayal of Anakin Skywalker and, briefly, Darth Vader in the Star Wars prequel trilogy wasn’t appreciated at the time, the actor’s reprisal of Star Wars’ greatest villain role is one of the most highly anticipated aspects ofObi-Wan Kenobi. Following concept art of a rematch on Mustafar with the title character, Kenobi released an official Darth Vader image that shows Christensen’s character walking from the shadows of the bacta tank room in his Mustafar castle. Obi-Wan Kenobi has yet to release an image of or confirm Christensen as an unmasked Darth Vader, but the show’s first-look photo all-but confirms this as a reality.
