Shazam: Fury of the Godsdirector David F. Sandberg pokes fun at some of the ridiculous fan theories going around about Rachel Zegler's character. Sandberg returns after helming the first Shazam, which debuted in theaters back in 2019. The sequel will find young hero Billy Batson (Asher Angel and Zachary Levi) now more adjusted to his powers, much like his equally superpowered foster siblings. Beyond that, plot details get a bit fuzzy, which isn't too surprising since Shazam 2 won't debut until December. It was previously scheduled to premiere in June 2023, but a recent DCEU calendar change bumped it up to this year.
What has been revealed about the Shazam 2 plot is that Billy and his siblings will be contending with some seriously formidable enemies. On that front, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu join the cast as goddesses Hespera and Kalypso, respectively. It isn't yet clear what brings them into Billy's path, but since he draws his own abilities from the gods, one can theorize it might have to do with his powers. Shazam 2 will also star West Side Story breakout Rachel Zegler in her latest major role. So far, her character has been kept mostly under wraps.

Still, that hasn't stopped fans from coming up with various ideas for who Zegler might be playing. One in particular even set up a poll for others to vote on, and the options are… interesting: Wonder Girl, Hawkgirl, Tawky Tawny, or "some rando." Sandberg, never one to miss an opportunity to joke, posted a video where he consulted his «script» before putting in a vote for Tawky. Needless to say, Zegler likely isn't playing this character.
