Director David F. Sandberg has revealed that his upcoming film Shazam!: Fury of the Gods will not give an explanation for the heroes' new costumes. The first Shazam! movie released in April 2019 as the seventh installment of the DC Extended Universe, and it received positive feedback from both critics and audiences alike. In the film, 14-year-old Billy Batson (played by Asher Angel) gains the power to transform into a grown, middle-aged superhero, complete with a red outfit sporting a white cape and lightning emblem.
It was revealed last year that the titular superhero, played by Zachary Levi, will be sporting a brand-new outfit in the highly anticipated sequel, as will the other members of the «Shazamily». During last year's DC FanDome event, a behind-the-scenes video was released showing a taste of what these new outfits will look like in action. The new costumes are more stylized versions than were seen in the 2019 film, adding more texture and making subtle design changes like Mary Bromfield's dress.

The director goes on to profess that if he were asked about the wardrobe upgrade, he was hoping to provide the simple answer that Barry Allen messed with the timelines. However, since the release of Sandberg's sequel has now been pushed up to before the release of The Flash, that changes his plans a bit. Check out his post below:
