After nearly four months sincehad wrapped up its production, the first trailer for Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars series has been leaked online on social media platforms like X and Reddit.
It seems like the leaked Acolyte trailer was captured during the 2023 Star Wars Celebration last April, where it was exclusively shown to attendees. Because of this, the studio may soon release new details about the Amandla Stenberg-led Disney+ series, as well as debut the official version of the leaked trailer.
The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Jodie Turner-Smith (After Yang), Charlie Barnett (You), and Margarita Levieva (The Deuce). The prequel will also feature Star Wars alum Joonas Suotamo, who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, portraying a new character in the form of a Wookiee Jedi named Kel Naka.
The Acolyte is described as a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers that will be set within the final days of the High Republic era. Further details about its characters haven’t been revealed yet, but the project title references a Sith in the beginning stages of their training under an experienced Sith Lord.
The Disney+ series is written and executive produced by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), who will also be serving as the showrunner. It is expected to debut in 2024.
