Two months ago, renowned leaker The Snitch said a God of War Ragnarök DLC/standalone expansion was in the works and around 60% complete. The rumor was more than a bit surprising, as the previous installment received no DLC. Moreover, just after the game's launch last year, Game Director Eric Williams publicly stated fans shouldn't count on a DLC since the game was already very big.
However, last month, another leaker doubled down on the God of War Ragnarök rumor. ViewerAnon said in a now-deleted tweet that Sony Santa Monica was working on a standalone expansion that started as a DLC but evolved into something akin to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Now, one of Spain's biggest gaming websites has chimed in, too. AreaJugones cites anonymous sources from inside Sony to confirm that not only is it real, but it will be announced before the end of the year. Speculation from the website points to Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards ceremony (slated for December 7 this year) as the likeliest venue for the announcement.
If such an expansion, whether standalone or not, is indeed in production, it is likely to center on Atreus. At the end of God of War Ragnarök, he sets off on his own to find the rest of the surviving Giants.
