The Xbox Developer_Direct special guest has turned out to be Square Enix who provided a look at Visions on Mana, the first Mana game in 15 years which was announced in 2023. Visions of Mana is the first mainline entry in Mana series for 15 years, and will be going back to roots of the series. There is not much about the story but we do know the main character is Val, the new soul guard, who is travelling across the world with his friend as she embarks on a pilgrimage to the Tree of Mana.
“Immerse yourself in the vibrant landscapes of this beautiful world, where the powers of nature blend with the elemental aspects of mana to create a rich tapestry of life. Journey through enchanting locations with near-seamless transitions in a semi-open field thats yours to discover.
Every four years, alms from around the world are chosen to travel to the Tree of Mana and rejuvenate the flow of mana power. A soul guard is also chosen to ensure the alms’ safe pilgrimage. Val is one such guard. When Val’s childhood friend is selected to be an alm, he sets off on a journey across the world to accompany her on the pilgrimage. Embark on an adventure of a lifetime!”
The video shows Pikuls, giant wold like steeds you can ride and are the mascot for the game. They are meant to be a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Pangolin, frankly I can’t seem much of either but I’m sure their influences are in there somewhere.
Combat has been revised with mid air spell casting so you can juggle enemies, and elemental attacks to allow for a broad range of fighting styles.
This will be the first time a Mana game has launched on Xbox, with a release this Summer. It’s also coming to PC, PS5, and PS4.
