Less than a month since pre-production on officially started, The Wrap brings word that writer-director James Gunn has managed to submit the first draft of the DC Studios movie, a week before the Writers’ Guild of America issued a writers strike. The outlet’s sources note that the WGA strike won’t affect the current progress of Superman: Legacy, as Gunn is currently meeting with talents for the casting of the movie.
Superman: Legacy will be a part of DC Studios’ first slate for its rebooted DC Universe which is being called as Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The film will written and directed by Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad filmmaker James Gunn, who was hired to become co-CEO of DC Studios in November 2022. It will feature an entirely new Superman, much younger than Henry Cavill’s version. However, the project isn’t being developed as an origin story.
“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Production is expected to begin in early 2024, just on track for its currently scheduled 2025 theatrical release.
