Suikoden successor, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, has been delayed the game’s developer Rabbit & Bear Studios have announced. The upcoming JRPG is now scheduled to release sometime in Q2 2024.

Following a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2020, Eiyuden Chronicle soared its way to the top of most-wanted lists, promising a classic roleplaying experience with – as you can probably guess – 100 playable heroes.

Having so many recruitable characters in an RPG used to be Suikoden’s party trick. However, the beloved Konami franchise has lay dormant for years now, original developers Yoshitaka Murayama (Suikoden I and II) and Junko Kawano (Suikoden I and IV) carrying the torch with Eiyuden Chronicle. For avid JRPG fans, the name Suikoden invokes a sense of nostalgia and admiration. Compared to genre mainstays like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, Konami’s series may not be as well known though its seen plenty of sequels, many of them launching outside of Japan. Making its debut in 1995 on the original PlayStation, Suikoden was brainchild of the aforementioned Yoshitaka Murayama, set in a richly crafted medieval fantasy world. The JPRG quickly garnered praise for its engaging storyline, well-developed characters, and innovative gameplay mechanics. It would spawn a sequel in 1998, followed by a string of successors moving into the PS2 era with new storylines, mechanics, and of course, a whole host of playable heroes.
