Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s anticipated delay could be bigger than previously claimed.
On Thursday, a Bloomberg source claimed Warner has decided to push the title from its previously announced May release date to the second half of 2023.
Following the report, which Warner has yet to officially comment on, Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb said a reliable source had told him that Rocksteady’s game may not arrive until next year.
“I don’t want to cause a panic or anything, but I’ve heard it’s not even coming this year, I’m hearing 2024,” he said.
“Earlier this evening I heard, they’re like, ‘this is a delay ass delay’, like this is a bigger delay than is even being put out there.
“We’ll see,” he added. “That stuff is hard to nail down for sure. I’ll say that this source has always been a very good one.”
Billed as a “genre-bending action-adventure shooter” set in an open-world Metropolis, Suicide Squad was announced in August 2020 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
It was originally planned for release in 2022, but last May the game’s release was pushed back to spring 2023. And in December, Warner announced plans to release the game on May 26.
Claims of a fresh delay follow a poorly received Suicide Squad gameplay showcase last month.
A 15-minute showing during a PlayStation live stream attracted some criticism from fans due to the game’s live service elements, such as the requirement to play online even in single-player mode.
The presentation also confirmed that the game will feature a battle pass, which Rocksteady claimed would only contain cosmetic items. Post-game support including new characters and missions was also announced.
