As a longtime Resident Evil fan, I was eager to get my hands on the Resident Evil 4 Remake. While I knew there would be changes, the ones I did come across worked only to enhance the story and experience. However, one of the things I did miss was many of the original’s gameplay mechanics. Thankfully it is the year 2023 and people have already crafted mods to bring back certain classic gameplay elements.
Over on Nexus Mods one creator is offering the Resident Evil 4 Classic Gameplay bundle. This package brings together three mods for the Remake that, as you may have guessed from the name, reintroduces classic gameplay elements. These elements work to stagger enemies more easily, like in the original. It is a welcome relief for those of us who line up a headshot, only for it to seemingly bounce off the head of these rabid villagers.

Included in this bundle is the Headshots Stagger mod. Applying this mod to the Remake allows for a single headshot to stagger an enemy. No longer will I land that headshot only for the should-be victim to laugh in my face and pitchfork me. The second mod in this bundle is the “Center Mass Shots Stop” mod. While the name is less self-explanatory than the others, it simply allows for a single shot to the chest to stop or interrupt an enemy that is trying to grapple you.
Finally, the Legshots Stagger mod brings back the ability for Leon to stagger an unsuspecting parasite victim with a single shot to the legs. This is perfect for those panicky situations I always find myself in where I start shooting wildly, usually at everyone’s feet.
