Love it or hate it, the new Super Mario Bros. Movie is out now. While I have yet to see the film to form an opinion on the Chris Pratt-led adaptation, the internet is not shy about sharing its views. Although, one thing people are not talking about is how much it connects to the stealth gaming franchise Hitman. Well, I am about to get that conversation started with some surprising news: Bowser and Agent 47 are one and the same…sort of.
It turns out that the actor behind Agent 47, David Bateson, is in the Mario movie. The actor took to Twitter to announce that he is the voice of Bowser in the Danish version of the Super Mario Bros. film. That’s right, the man behind everyone’s favorite clone assassin is also spitting fireballs at an Italian plumber. Bateson also took the opportunity to fanboy at being the “Danish Jack Black”, and who can blame him for that?

In a tweet, Bateson attached a clip of the movie trailer with the Danish dub. While I have absolutely no idea what anyone is saying (my foreign language course in school was Latin), there is no denying Bateson’s iconic voice coming out of Bowser’s mouth. It is an odd occasion to hear Agent 47’s Danish tones coming from Bowser and one that is only possible in the world of video games.
Elsewhere in the world of Mario, the animated film is doing surprisingly well with audiences. In fact, it holds a 96 percent audience score despite some mostly average reviews. Plus, the film is heading for a big payday at the box office with the Hollywood Reporter estimating a $195 million domestic box office for its first five-day outing. Not bad for a small-time plumber from Brooklyn.
