Starfield has nearly landed, arriving on September 6, 2023. Since it has now gone gold, you can preload it starting tomorrow on Xbox and Windows, or on August 30 if you're buying it via Steam.
When a game 'goes gold', it means that it has been approved by companies like Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo to be published on its consoles. Basically, the game is finished and in working condition, ready to be shipped. The term comes from when games were burned to gold-coloured discs, entering the manufacturing phase.

For Starfield, that means it's unlikely to get delayed again, sticking with its September release date. This news comes amidst growing concerns that it would be subject to a last-minute pushback, a worry that a fan aired on Twitter while asking "when the game is going gold and when is the pre-download". Bethesda's head of publishing Pete Hines said, "Take a deep breath. I have an amazing team. We know what we're doing." Two days later, they have their answer.
