It's an exciting time for Stardew Valley players, as creator Eric Barone has been slowly dishing out updates over the course of the past week, all culminating in the release of Patch 1.6 earlier today. It added a bunch of new features, including new festivals and seasonal events, a mastery system, a new farm type, more NPC interactions, and much more.
We're going to push all of that exciting stuff to one side for the moment though, as Stardew Valley's latest update has also given players th ability to own more than one pet at a time, as well as more dog and cat breeds. However, who needs a dog or a cat when we now choose to have a turtle as a pet instead?
Yes, according to the game's new patch notes, this update has made it so you can choose a turtle as your starting pet, or bring one to your farm at a later date. Yu will need to put the work in though, as to have more than one pet at your farm at any given time, you need to ensure you've got the maximum number of hearts possible for your starter pet. After that, you'll be able to bring your new turtle friend into your home.
Right now, the patch is currently only available for PC, so those of you on consoles will have to make do with your solitary pet for now. For those of you on PC, the update is currently available on both Steam and GOG, though Barone has explained that the Game Pass version will take a little bit longer and has apologized for the delay. For turtles, no wait is too long.
If you're an avid mod user, Barone has also explained that lots of mods will still work with Patch 1.6 (a full list of which can be found here), and that he has created an option for players that wish to stay on version 1.5.6. However, he does also recommend that players try out version 1.6 without mods, but acknowledges that some may not want to just yet. Honestly, you should be dropping everything for turtles anyway, mods be damned.
