A new piece of Star Wars fan art has hit social media showing John Boyega’s Finn as a Jedi Knight in his own spinoff movie. The character debuted in the Star Wars universe in 2015 when The Force Awakens premiered in theaters. From there, he went on to become a fixture of the sequel trilogy, appearing in all three films and numerous pieces of expanded Star Wars media.
The concept of Stormtrooper-turned-rebel Finn becoming a Jedi was teased as far back as the earliest trailers for The Force Awakens. The cryptic pieces of marketing showed the character wielding Luke Skywalker’s old lightsaber, only for the movie to actually make Daisy Ridley’s Rey Force-sensitive in a third-act twist. Following that reset of the status quo, Finn was eventually revealed to be Force-sensitive himself in The Rise of Skywalker but he never became an official Jedi Knight on-screen. This led to criticism of how Finn was handled in the trilogy, which Boyega agreed with.
