A new Star Wars book has made Luke Skywalker's death in Star Wars: The Last Jedi even more confusing. Thanks to a newly released preview for the upcoming novel Shadows of the Sith, new details into Luke Skywalker's adventures between the original and sequel trilogies have been revealed. While it confirms that the Jedi Master was able to create Force projections long before the Battle of Crait, it creates some confusion as to why the effort led to Luke's death in The Last Jedi.
Shadows of the Sith, from author Adam Christopher, will focus primarily on Luke Skywalker. However, Lando Calrissian will also be involved, which will undoubtedly pay off their referenced investigations into the Sith that were made in The Rise of Skywalker. According to the synopsis for the book, Lando and Luke will be tracking down the Sith assassin Ochi of Bestoon, the same assassin who was tasked with hunting down and bringing young Rey to Palpatine (though he ultimately failed). However, it's also teased that Luke has been growing increasingly concerned with visions of the dark side of the Force and the hidden Sith world of Exegol.

Now, Lucasfilm has published an excerpt for Shadows of the Sith which takes place 10 years before The Force Awakens. In it, Luke is meditating on the planet Tython, the very same Jedi world where Ahsoka sent Din Djarin and Grogu in the second season of The Mandalorian. Surprisingly, Luke's powerful connection to the Force sees him transported to the world of Exegol where he faces nine Sith spirits.
