Square Enix announced a Summer 2024 release date window and showed off new gameplay for Visions of Mana at this week’s Xbox Developer Direct.
The presentation took fans of the Mana series down memory lane as executive producer Masaru Oyamada highlighted the 17 titles spread across the series’ 30 year history, beginning in 1991 with Final Fantasy Adventure.
Visions of Mana features a semi-open world where players will play as Val who hails from the Fire Village of Tianeea. A Faerie visits Val’s village as part of a quadrennial festival to choose people fated to visit the Tree of Mana. The Faerie selects Val’s childhood friend and Val must accompany her to the Tree of Mana as her soul guard.
Series creator Koichi Ishii was also on hand and discussed how he’s overseen the work of taking what were once merely pixelated creatures and translating them into 3D for this new title.
This is also the first time a Mana title will appear on Microsoft’s Xbox platform, though Visions of Mana will also release on Sony’s PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as PC when it releases this summer.
