All the way back in 1996, a slew of ex-Capcom designers, including Strider’s Kouichi Yotsui, created a coin-op game called Cannon Dancer, which was also known as Osman in the United States. Despite making its way into arcades, the game never got ported to consoles at the time, and has spent the last three decades in obscurity. Next week, it’ll release on PS5 and PS4.
Available from 13th April, the port has been created with oversight from Yotsui, and features the original arcade experience with some optional contemporary conveniences. These include save states and the ability to rewind your gameplay, so you can correct any mistakes in what is guaranteed to be a brutal and unforgiving release. You can also enable some help, like invincible jumps, slides, and attacks – but only if you want to, of course!
Obviously, it’s exciting to see another classic preserved on modern consoles, and we’ve never actually played this one, so we’re stoked to give it a whirl for the first time.
