Spider-Man 2's $229 collector's edition may have just only become available for pre-order earlier today, but it's apparently already sold out in the US after just over half an hour.
After giving us our first proper look at Spider-Man 2's gameplay during May's PlayStation Showcase, Insomniac Games followed up its big debut at Summer Game Fest by announcing the game's October release date and revealing a little more information about its story. After the show, PlayStation also revealed the Spider-Man 2 collector's edition and confirmed that pre-orders would go live today, June 16.

The collector's edition itself costs $229/ £219 and includes all of the exclusive skins from the digital deluxe edition, a steelbook featuring concept art of Peter and Miles fighting Venom, some skill points, and some bonus photo mode items. The big ticket item is a 10cm statue of Peter and Miles going up against Venom, similar to the concept art that's featured on the steelbook.
All told, it's a pretty impressive collector's edition and one that generated a lot of excitement from Spider-Man fans when it was first shown off. With that in mind, it was looking very likely that it would sell out quickly once pre-orders went live on PlayStation Direct and, lo and behold, that's exactly what's happened - if you're in the US, at least.
Pre-orders for the collector's edition of Spider-Man 2 went live around two hours ago in the US and it seems that it was quite an ordeal. Across social media, queue times to get the collector's edition were anywhere between five and 40 minutes, and several Spider-Man fans reported that they were told the edition was sold out when they went to buy it.
