Sphere Defense is a new tower defense game on Android by Tomnoki Studio. The game tips its hat to geoDefense, the tower defense classic from David Whatley that dropped over a decade ago. Growing up playing the game, the developer loved how beautifully simple yet challenging it was.
The whole premise of the game is that the Earth or ‘The Sphere’ is on the brink of getting wiped out by invaders. Humanity’s been shoved underground, slapping together new tech in the hope of fighting back.
After years of getting stomped on, the residents have finally collected enough firepower to fight the invaders. And with that, you lead the counterattack and save the planet.
On the gameplay front, Sphere Defense brings the classic tower defense loop. You plop down units, each with a specific strength, and fend off waves of enemies. As you rack up kills, you get more resources to expand or upgrade your arsenal. Higher difficulties crank up the strategy.
Speaking of difficulty, you get three options to choose from: easy, normal and hard. Each difficulty is further has 10 stages, with each stage lasting between 5 to 15 minutes. On that note, catch a glimpse of the game below!
There are seven types of units in Sphere Defense which you’ll mix and match to survive. There are your attack units, like the Standard Attack Turret for single-target takedowns, the Area Attack Turret for blowing up clusters of enemies and the Piercing Attack Turret for when enemies are doing the conga line of doom.
Then, there are support units like the Cooling Turret and the Incendiary Turret for giving your attack units that extra punch. There are support attack units like the Fixed-Point Attack Unit for precise missile strikes or the Linear Attack Unit to drop some satellite laser pain.
