Warning! Minor spoilers for Spectro ahead!
The latest horror anthology from AfterShock Comics, Spectro, is a terrifying new addition to the horror genre with a satirical edge. Horror anthologies have been a much sought-after brand due to the fact that it's interesting to see what creators can come up with to scare readers in a short amount of time. Some of the most notable horror anthologies in comics have included the iconic EC Comics from the 1950s with titles such as Tales from the Crypt and The Vault of Horror. The legacy of these comics is even continuing in a new Creepshow comic that will look to its anthology roots. Now, Spectro is joining this long beloved branch of horror and adding some new terrifying tales with a science fiction setting.
Spectro is created by visual artist Juan Doe, who has had a long history in comics, working both independently and with some of the biggest names in the industry. Now, he's teamed up with AfterShock to deliver this new collection of terror, which consists of four stories. Each tale looks to the world of science fiction to bring horrific karmic consequences to the protagonists and antagonists. These stories include a man who attempts to lose weight with a privacy-invasive scale, a meeting between the planets about excommunicating Pluto, a billionaire attempting to become the first man to climb Olympus Mons, and a woman doing everything to prevent an alien species from taking over the Earth. The result is a solid anthology that's a welcome addition to a long line of anthologies like EC Comics before it.
