Ewan McGregor reveals that he was terrified to play the real-life fashion designer who inspired the Halston mini-series. Adapted from the book Simply Halston by Steven Gaines, the 5-part mini-series aired on Netflix in May of 2021. Halston earned mostly positive reviews from audiences and critics, with many praising McGregor's performance as the titular fashion icon. The series is created by Ryan Murphy, who is best known for his work on shows like Glee, Hollywood, Ratched, and The Politician, among others.
Halston follows McGregor's titular character as he attempts to become one of the leading names in women's fashion in the 1970s. The show, like the book upon which it is based, depicts a world filled with colorful characters and excess, with Halston's road to the top mired by shifting alliances, complex romantic relationships, and unrestrained ambition. Despite positive reviews, the Netflix show was deemed "inaccurate" by Halston's family, who claim that they were not consulted during the show's production. In addition to McGregor, Halston stars Bill Pullman, Rebecca Dayan, David Pittu, Krysta Rodriguez, Gian Franco Rodriguez, Sietzka Rose, Megan Gerald, Molly Jobe, and Maxim Swinton, among others.

In a new interview with GQ, McGregor admits that, while he's not usually intimidated by the roles he takes on, his role in Halston terrified him. The actor explains that he's confident enough in his acting ability at this point in his career that doesn't find many roles to be "hard," but reveals that, in the lead-up to shooting Halston, his wife, actor Mary Elizabeth Winstead, can attest to the fact that he was "sh***ing bricks."
