Thor: Love and Thunder is set to release soon, and unfortunately, it’s possible that its villain, Gorr the God Butcher, won’t be the terrifying monster that he’s supposed to be. Not much of the MCU’s version of Gorr has been shown so far, so it’ll be hard to gauge exactly how his character will be presented until the movie is released. That being said, various behind-the-scenes details do make it sound like Thor: Love and Thunder won’t go as far with the character as it could, and that could end up putting a damper on the overall experience.
In a recent interview, Christian Bale revealed that at his insistence, they had filmed a scene where Gorr screams in reference to a scene from the music video for Aphex Twin’s “Come to Daddy”, but it was cut for being too extreme for a PG-13 movie like Thor: Love and Thunder (via Screen Rant). The scene in question has horrific sounds and imagery, so referencing it could have been perfectly in line with a frightening character like Gorr the God Butcher. Not only that, but the character who’s screaming in the video greatly resembles Bale’s version of Gorr and was even stated by Bale, himself, to be his inspiration, so keeping in the reference could have worked especially well in that regard.

The scream being cut causes the movie to lose out on a nice reference, but what’s worse is that it makes it seem like the MCU depiction of Gorr the God Butcher won’t be as frightening as he could be.
