Blumhouse is currently developing the new movie adaptation, now retitled as , and a new script by Matt Mixon, Malcolm Spellman, and Scott Silver has recently been teased by McFarlane at SDCC, who called it a “” and “” R-rated take that remains true to his spirit with Jamie Foxx playing the lead role.
Now, in an interview with , McFarlane responded to the question of whether or not he wants another video game with an emphatic "" However, McFarlane has noted how he has "" until there's a launch that he considers to be big and meaningful enough. To do this, McFarlane stated it needed to be tied to either a movie or TV reboot to break out of the "" and get more "" with the brand, citing Robert Kirkman's as an example of a comic that saw a huge increase in brand recognition with the launch of AMC's TV series.
McFarlane went on to explain that once the movie is settled — which he hopes will be in the next few months — there will be a product line covering other areas, such as video games, as it will be easier to sell to fans who have been around forever, and then the newer audiences who are just discovering the character.
