PlayStation won't be present at Gamescom 2023, a Sony Interactive Entertainment has reportedly said.
In a new article from German outlet Gamesmarkt, it's being reported that Sony will be skipping the annual event in Cologne. "A company spokesperson confirmed to GamesMarkt that they currently have no plans to exhibit in the business and public area of the fair this year", the article reads.
Sony skipped the annual games event in Germany last year as well. Back in 2021, Sony didn't attend the event either but did make an appearance during Geoff Keighley's Gamescom 2021 Opening Night Live. While this isn't an official confirmation from Sony that it won't attend Gamescom 2023, it does seem likely.
Back in March of this year, the Koelnmesse Gamescom organization and The German Games Industry Association announced that registrations for Gamescom 2023 were up 10% compared to last year. In addition, it was announced that a "major company" would make its return this year. One month later, in April, Nintendo announced that it would be present at the event.
“Last year, we made a really strong, hybrid gamescom comeback together with all partners and exhibitors", Koelnmesse's Oliver Frese wrote earlier this year. "In and beyond the industry, this achievement has been noticed, as was evident with the strong interest during the early bird phase. Without giving away too much, I promise that the community can look forward to one or the other major company that was not present last year."
Whether Microsoft will be present at the event has yet to be confirmed.
Gamescom 2023 is taking place from August 22nd through August 27th at the trade fair grounds in Cologne, Germany. As always, we will update you as soon as more information about Gamescom
