Sega is kicking off 2024 with a new Sonic Superstars update. Last year was jam-packed with exciting Sonic content, and this was capped off with the release of Sonic Superstars in October. In contrast to Sonic Frontiers’ open-world 3D approach, Superstars harkens back to the Blue Blur’s side-scrolling heyday with a 2D platforming experience that sees Sonic and his friends race to stop a trio of villains under the leadership of Dr. Eggman. Sonic Superstars added a few new tricks to the traditional, fast-paced Sonic gameplay, such as unlockable Chaos Emerald powers and co-op and competitive multiplayer modes.
While Sonic Superstars fell short of Sega’s sales expectations following its launch late last year, Sonic Team is still committed to supporting the game through online updates and DLC content. In addition to the usual bug fixes, Sonic Superstars added LEGO versions of Tails, Knuckles, and Amy to go with the Sonic and Eggman pre-order skins, as well as a new version of Amy modeled after her appearances from Sonic Adventure onward. More recently, Sonic received a festive holiday character skin back in December, similar to the one added to Sonic Frontiers in late 2022.
The latest update for Sonic Superstars is now live across all major platforms. According to the patch notes, Update 1.15 adds an option to reset the player’s scores in Time Attack Mode. This will only delete the scores saved in the user’s local save data though; the scores posted to Sonic Superstars’ online leaderboards will still remain intact. There are also various bug fixes included in Update 1.15, though the exact details aren’t specified.
